Get proactive with bed bugs

Winter is commonly referred to as a slow time for bed bugs. That doesn’t mean they’re not there— eliminating those biting little insects just often takes a lower priority to holiday festivities and colder weather in most parts of the country.
Here’s a simple proactive step for you: as you go about your life, keep an eye on your bed sheets. Bedding is one of the easiest places to find evidence of bed bugs. Catching a bed bug infestation early on will make for easier and quicker clean-up after a one-day heat treatment.
According to the 2019 State of the Bed Bug Market, almost all general pest control companies rely solely on insecticide treatments to combat bed bugs. These treatments take time to kill bed bugs. As a rule, will not kill the bed bug eggs and will require multiple treatments.
Compare these results to a clean bed bug heat treatment which will eliminate your entire bed bug infestation in a single, one-day treatment. Heat not only kills all adult and nymph bed bugs, but also destroys all the eggs. No eggs to hatch, no bed bug bites two weeks later.
A pressing issue for the insecticide industry is chemical resistance. It’s a big problem. As I wrote about back in October, most over-the-counter bed bug sprays and foggers contain some form of a natural or synthetic pyrethroid. While these products claim “100% Efficacy”, a 2014 study found at most a 93% reduction in bed bugs.
Bed bugs multiply very quickly
Let’s put this in perspective: If you have a bed bug infestation with only 5,000 bed bugs in your home or business, a 93% success still leaves 350 bed bugs to bite, feed, and reproduce. A single female may lay batches of 10 to 50 eggs, totaling between 200 to 500 eggs in her typical 10-month lifetime. From egg to adult can take as little as five weeks. If we assume half of your bed bugs are female, and each female lays just 25 eggs every two months, at the end of ten months you can have 100 million bed bugs running around your home or business.
A single breeding pair will create an infestation numbering well over half a million hungry, breeding bed bugs in just ten months. Anything less than 100% success is a failed treatment.
The numbers are scary. That’s why we use heat for a 100% kill.
